Recently, ammunition manufacturers CCI Speer and Norma Precision discontinued their Copper-22 and Eco-Speed/Eco-Power brands, respectively, leaving shooters with no factory-loaded non-lead .22 LR options available on the market. The loss of these products is especially damaging to California hunters and ranchers, who are required by state law to use non-lead ammunition when shooting wildlife in the state. Help us let these manufacturers know how much their non-lead .22 LR products are needed.

Ventana Wildlife Society wrote letters to CCI and Norma asking them to reconsider their decisions to discontinue their non-lead .22 LR brands. We encourage you to do the same.

Feel free to use one or more of the following elements in your letters:

• As a leader in non-lead rimfire, you were one of the only manufacturers that enabled Californians to follow their state law requiring non-lead ammunition for shooting wildlife.
• Hunters and ranchers have a longstanding tradition of wildlife conservation and your non-lead .22 LR product helps advance that tradition through the use of non-lead ammunition.
• Your non-lead .22 LR has been a “go to” brand for many hunters and ranchers seeking a non-lead alternative, and the next manufacturer to release a non-lead brand stands to corner a growing market in non-lead rimfire sales.
• We appreciate the wide selection of .22 LR products you offer, but we are disappointed that you have chosen to discontinue the only one that is non-lead.
• Your non-lead .22 LR is essential for protecting the critically-endangered California Condor, eagles, and other scavenging wildlife.
• We look forward to hearing about any plans you have for the return of your non-lead .22 LR and development of other new and innovative products.
